Here's a little something I stumbled on while surfing today:

ps. I'll find my frog

Click on each picture to go to the next one. Lots of Photoshopped goodness.

ps. it seems the missing frog is a McDonalds toy. No actual frogs were harmed in making this post or the Web site.

Wow, that was great. So creative too.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Wow, indeed. Up until only recently, I consider that book to be the finest piece of literature ever written. I mean, that prose sends shivers down the back.

Of course, you can always count on a murderer for a fancy prose style.

A classic! Would that more like this were done each day. The world would be a better place.

Sadly, we are all losing our frogs.

Thanks for the bright spot, ktesibios. The ideas for the photos are not only inventive, but they're also brilliantly executed. It was a treat.

Neat, but I just don't get it.

I think of it as something of a metaphore, perhaps unintended. The child has lost his precious frog and wants it back and will go to whatever lengths to find it. Our frog, the Bill of Rights, is also endangered.

Thus, as amphibians in general are in rapid decline world wide, we are losing our frogs both metaphorically and physically. When there are no frogs of either sort left....... I'll leave that to the thoughts of others. Mine are filled with gloom and doom.

On the other hand, maybe it's really just a joke.

Disclaimer: I tried to find some background for the site, but without success. Therefore, I'm just going on my own impressions.

When a child is born the parent(s) (ideally) experience love for that child on a plane that they had never even glimpsed, much less experienced, before. Don't gag, I'm serious! Suddenly things from the parent's past become clear to him or her - all the crap their parents did for them, especially the stuff they took for granted, makes sense. The new parent then makes a promise to him(her)self to be worthy of this child.

The child starts to grow, and through the child the parent remembers pure, undistilled delight in the simplest things: How big the ocean is, how tiny things look from a mountain, how pretty some weeds are.

The parent also remembers the all encompassing, crushing, irrational grief that comes with losing a favorite toy. The parent probably also remembers being told that it's "not a big deal", but was a HUGE deal.

So, the parent, using his(her) considerable talent, proceeds to launch a search through time and space to find the child's lost toy. Of course it's been lodged between the child's bed and the bedroom wall the entire time. But that's not really the point. The point is, that before the child grows up and goes out into the world where he is a tiny, insignificant number, he gets to feel like there was a time when the whole world stopped to look for his frog.

What an amazing gift for anyone to give another person. We all got to bask in that a little bit, and it was nice.

Of course, in the weeks that followed Hoppin' Green Frog's disappearance, McDonalds invariably came out with much cooler Happy Meal ™ toys, and likely as not Terry has forgotten the whole thing.

Such is life.
